With decentralization, there is a new permit system has been implemented for trekking in the Everest region. You will not require Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) Card for having trek in the Everest region. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit

This permit is newly implemented by the local government of the Khumbu region from 1st October 2018 after removing the TIMS. The local government of Khumbu collects $20 per person for permit costs. This money is used for the conservation and development of the Khumbu region. Always be sure that this permit is not available in Kathmandu valley or Pokhara valley. For taking this permit, you need to fly to Lukla and apply for a permit. In case if you are trekking Everest Base Camp through Jiri or Salleri then this permit is obtained in Monjo.

Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit

Sagarmatha National Park is the home of different endangered animals and birds. An existing permit system is there for entering the Sagarmatha National Park. If you are traveling any routes in the Everest region, you need to have Sagarmatha National Park at any cost. Otherwise, you are not allowed to enter the National Park. This permit is available in Kathmandu at Nepal Tourism Board or the park entrance gate in Monjo. This permit costs $ per person.

Required documents for trekking permits

You just need detailed pieces of information of your passport for the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit and Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit. Also, it is easy when you provide 2 passports sized clear photo with a copy of your passport. All these permits are payable in local currency only.
