Overview
Helambu Trek is very famous because of its scenic beauty and modest atmosphere. The Helambu trek region is located approximately 72 km northward from Kathmandu, which is amidst the Taramarang, Gosainkunda and lesser slants of Jugal Himal.
The highland Sherpa & Tamang villages can be met on the way of Helambu Valley Trekking. Helambu Trek offers enchanting mountain-scape with slow-moving snake-like glaciers, swift mountain torrents, spectacular snow-capped peaks, outstanding lawns & pastures, pine forest, small lakes with icebergs floating on the crystalline water, which are the major attractions of the trek.
Due to the lower elevations, ranging from 800 m to 3600m with modest temperatures, Helambu Trek is one of the easiest treks in Nepal. First, you start the journey from Sundarijal (about one hour drive from Kathmandu) up to Chisopani.
The trail passes through a small hydroelectric plant. Staying overnight to a lodge at Chisopani, you start heading ups & downs to reach Kutumsang. During the trek, you can enjoy the meadows along the sides. The unpaved trail goes piercing the pine forest. Similarly, Tharepati is another destination for an overnight stay.
Through the eroded trail, you can go amidst the fir and rhododendron forest, oak and other spices of trees and reach Tharepati, which offers breathtaking sights of surrounding snow-capped mountains… After exploring the nature there, you descend Helambu Valley, a place having the distinctive culture of Sherpas & Tamangs. Roaming the Shivapuri ridge in the Helambu region adds an extra feeling to the travelers. Melamchi is also the famous tourist spot of that region.
Although the Earthquake Nepal 2015 triggered Nepal massively, now, Helambu Region is in the process of rebuilding. You are most welcome to the region aftermath of reconstruction operation! We urge you to visit – still you can enjoy the place. You can recreate here as much as you could earlier…
