Makalu Region
The Makalu region is dominated by the magnificent Makalu peak-the fifth-highest mountain of the world. It is a paradise for trekkers who aspire to dramatic landscapes and raw natural beauty around them, with a combination of lush green Arun Valley, glacial water, and impressive granite cliffs that all weave themselves into a dramatic and stunning backdrop of sheer grandeur. Its Makalu-Barun National Park is a hotspot for biodiversity harboring very rare flora and fauna, to mention few as red pandas and snow leopards, in addition to a full range of orchids, thus serving as a paradise for nature lovers.
Trekkers are also led to paths that are followed by very few trekkers leading to the Makalu Base Camp. Cultural enrichment also plays a role, with traditional Rai, Sherpa, and Limbu villages offering the much fuller definition of the region’s heritage. This is then matched by beautiful cascading waterfalls and alpine meadows, into high peaks and warm hospitality, all of which coalesce to make this such a wondrous jewel.
