When to Go

How to Go

There are two options to reach Lukla: by flight or by local jeep or bus. You can have a flight from Tribhuwan International Airport or a local bus or jeep from Salleri to Lukla.

Itinerary

There are many trekking routes in the Everest Region(Khumbu region). All of the trekking routes are different and each one has a different itinerary.

Permits

Every tourist who is here Nepal requires permits to visit the Everest region. While hiking you will pass through Sagarmatha National Park for this you require permits. TIMS and Sagarmatha National Park Permits are necessary for trekking in the Everest region.

What to Bring

The packing list is very necessary while traveling in a specific area. You are allowed to carry only 10 kg of luggage from Kathmandu to Lukla by flight. So, you are requested to pack necessary things while trekking in the Everest region. It is requested to carry an emergency box with you because there might be any serious emergency case while hiking at a higher altitude.

At higher altitude, there might not be a health post for furthermore treatment so it is necessary to carry medicine box with you. Down jackets can be taken in rent either from Kathmandu valley or Namche Bazar. In addition, you can take trekking poles, torch, and your toiletries with you.

Accommodation and Food

Accommodation is available from the basic level to a 5-star hotel. You will be provided a comfortable room where you can relax and can be free from body pain. Foods are easily available in larger villages as well as small stops where tourists used to relax. And you are requested not to buy a mineral bottle because it costs more amount.

Before leaving your home, always be prepared physically and mentally. Your fitness level should be good for hiking. You can run, hike, and go to the gym to increase your strength. Here are some tips before leaving home:

Everest Base Camp Trek Things to Know

Lukla Flight

Traveling to Lukla is the first day of your trek. It will take 45 minutes to reach Lukla from Kathmandu valley. During peak season, it is difficult to get the ticket of flight due to more number of tourists. Due to bad weather and temperature Lukla Airport often block the flight. If the weather remains bad then flight may delay up to 10 days.

Chartered Helicopter

Heli Tour is the best way to explore the Everest region. Observing the amazing view of mountains along with the highest peak in the world seems so amazing. The helicopter can be chartered for around $-$. In case the weather is a bad plane flight will be canceled so that it is difficult to charter a Helicopter too. Altitude Sickness

Best View Points

Tengboche (3,870m) known as the viewpoint of the Everest region. It offers an amazing view of stunning mountain vistas like Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Kalapatthar (5,500m) is also one of the vantage viewpoints of the Everest region which offers you the awesome view of Mount Everest, Mount Pumori, and Ama Dablam.

Tengboche Monastery (3,867m) is also known as the largest monastery in the Everest region. With its natural beauty, this monastery was built for the preservation of Buddhist culture. Both natural and spiritual beauty has attracted tourists to this place. You can observe the spectacular view of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.

Everest View Hotel

Trek to Mera Peak Base Camp

This trek follows the Arun river through the lush dense forests, landscapes, rural villages, alpine forests, and so on. Over an altitude of 6,400 meters, an awesome view of the world’s highest mountain in the world can be observed clearly. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse and Cho you are the major attraction of tourists.

Escape from Tashi Lapcha towards Tsho Rolpa Lake

This trek can be done by passing through Gauri Shankar Conservation Area and Sagarmatha National Park following the Rolwaling valley. This trek allows you to observe the awesome view of Tso Rolpa Lake (4,450m) and Tashi Lapcha Pass (5,750m) which is known as the very difficult trek to do in this region. For having a trek in this region, your body should be perfectly fit and stamina should be enough.

Ama Lapcha Pass and Sherpani Col Toward Makalu

This trek is located between the two mountain ranges between Makalu and Everest. This trek is dangerous as compared to others. This trek is done with cross-country trekking with mountaineering (fixed rope and possible ice axe) to cross “Three Cols” which is known as Sherpani Col, West Col, and Ama Lapcha. For having this trek, you need to have a strong fitness level and stamina. The majority of the days should spend over height 4,000 meters to 6,000 meters which is very difficult.
