The Upper Mustang Trek offers you the spectacular trekking into the remote. Trans-Himalayan mountain area and the route entails travelling across the desert-like landscape with Tibetan influence culture. It lies just in the north of the main Himalayans ranges of Nepal. The government officially opened the trekking to Mustang in 1992. Before 1991, authorities prohibited foreign travelers from visiting this region. During the trek, you traverse an almost treeless barren landscape, navigate a deadly steep rocky trail up and down hills. And enjoy majestic panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and several other snowy peaks.
Mustang contains various beautiful trekking zones where the high desert rain shadow of the Himalayas receives very little rainfall, making this region dry throughout the year. People mostly build houses in Mustang from stone and sun-baked mud bricks due to the wide availability of stones..
Our Upper Mustang trek starts from the Jomsom up to Kagbeni which is the entry point of upper Mustang Region. Following the bank of Kaligandaki River, we reach to the four-story palace in Lo-Manthang which is some of the beautiful architectures of Mustang region. TIJI the three-day long ritual also called “The Chasing of Demon” is one of the famous festivals of this Mustang region. Tiji Festival Trek is anoner popular trek of Mustang, Annapurna Region.
Best Time for Upper Mustang Trek
The favourable months to trek to Upper Mustang are from April to November. Because of Upper Mustang being a rain Shadow area, we can do trekking in this part even in the monsoon season i.e. (June- Sept). But, during the monsoon season, trekking in the popular trails of Everest and Annapurna is not recommended.

Permits Required for Upper Mustang Trekking Area
Trekking Infromation Management System(TIMS) card and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit(ACAP) are the two essential permits for Upper Mustang Trekking.

In 1996 my wife and me had spent 12 days in Upper Mustang or Lomanthang in Tiji Festival which takes place as per the Tibetan calendar, it was amazing culture and tradition, since then we were dreaming to visit Lo-manthang once again. This year in May we got an opportunity visit Lomanthang again. We found everything is changed, modernized everything, We enjoyed a lot, most of the hotels and lodges are built new and upgraded. my friend Bharat the owner of Going Nepal organized the trip very smoothly, He is perfect trip organizer, he could handle all the situation perfectly, we are speechless with his efficiency, our guide Yaka was so good.

This is my second time to participate in Nepal mountain tour and trekking to the Upper Mustang area. I found all my trips to be well organized by the Mountain treks Nepal Team and everything went surprisingly smoothly.
During my recent trip, I contacted Mountain treks Nepal , Mr. Bharat. I wanted a trip that was different from my last trip. Therefore, I decided to trek to the area on the east side of the Kali Gandaki River. All my queries were resolved via the emails within a short time. He also gave me a customized itinerary and quoted a price. I accepted his proposed program as it met all our requirements in a reasonable price.
For Upper Mustang Trek, a guide was must and Mountain treks nepal Team provided professional guides as well as a porter for two of us. Deepak was the guide and he was a good guide. He knows where we are going and He takes great care of us. His top priority is our safety and health. The householder is akash; he is amazing and powerful. We like to have traffic and leadership.

From my very first contact with Ram I felt confident that we were in safe reliable hands. Due to covid we had to rearrange our original dates and Ram was very accommodating.
we went through the details of our trek and met our guide Deepak. We had also opted for a day tour of Kathmandhu which was excellent, the owner took us on the tour and we felt me maximized our day.
Our trek to Upper Mustang was better than expected, the tea houses were all wonderful, again we had to make adjustments on the trek due to some of our requests and also due to events outside of our control. Deepak responded quickly to these to ensure that we were still able to see all of Upper Mustang and return safely to Pokhara.

Mountain treks Nepal . I originally planned to go to Upper Mustang for the Tij festival, but they beat me to it! The trip was well organized and the tour guide and driver were very nice. All the extras are great bonuses, but Upper Mustang is an area worth visiting. Traveling in a spacious air-conditioned vehicle, we traveled through the mountains in complete safety and learned a lot about the area. The food was great and the entire trip was handled very professionally. Mountain Treks Nepal is my top recommendation and I will definitely be working with them on future trips with
