Overview
Mt. Kailash (6,740m) is located to the north of the Himalayan barrier and fully within Tibet. This mountain is a sacred center for four great religions: Hinduism, the Jain religion (an Indian religious group), Tibetan Buddhism and Bonpo – the pre- Buddhist animistic religion. Hindu believe Mt Kailash to be the abode of Lord Shiva and Manasarobar Lake, the soul of Brahma. According to legend, Lord Shiva lives at Kailash with his divine companion Parbati and smokes sacred herb marijuana (ganja). It is also believed to be the physical embodiment of the mythical Mt. Meru is said to be the heart of the universe. For the Jains, Kailash is the place where their prophet achieved enlightenment. For Bonpo, it is the site where its founder Shanrab is said to have descended from heaven.
The first day of tour stars from Kathmandu- Nyalam (small Tibetan town), moving to Dongba-Mansarovar-Darchen accordingly where pooja, Dhawan and spiritual activities according to your tradition is done and then to Diraphuk, Zhulthulphuk, and last Paryang. Mt Kailash can be visited as KORA (circuit) long walking round by visitors and devotees. Along this tour, visitors take a short plunge in the nearby sacred site Manasarovar Lake. According to the Hindu believe Manasarobar Lake is the soul of Brahma (the creator of the universe).
The word ‘manas’ means consciousness and ‘sarovar’ means holy lake, therefore, it is called as ‘Lake of Consciousness’. The holy Manasarovar Lake view on moonlit nights especially during the full moon looks incredibly delightful. It covers areas of 88 km and its depth is the 90m and total area of 320 sq km. There is another neighboring lake; it is called Rakshas Tal (Ravan Kund), which covers the 122-km area of the circumference. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a spiritual quest in the Himalayas by the visitors seeking religious blessings of almighty.

We recently went on a trip to Manasarovar with Mountain Treks Nepal, and it was a fantastic experience. We especially enjoyed the trek around Mount Kailash. The scenery was breathtaking, and our guide Shiva was knowledgeable and attentive. On one particularly challenging climb, our guide The transportation was clean and comfortable, and the meals were delicious and plentiful.
