Everest Base Camp Trek Overview
The Everest Base Camp Trek offers a powerful mix of scenic beauty, cultural depth, and high-altitude adventure. Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, this iconic route leads you through vibrant Sherpa villages, sacred monasteries, and rugged trails, all culminating at the foot of the world’s tallest mountain Mount Everest.
Over 14 days, you’ll trek to an altitude of around 5,364 meters, with uninterrupted views of Himalayan giants like Pumori, Lhotse, Nuptse, Lobuche, and of course, Everest itself.
The journey kicks off with an unforgettable mountain flight. From January to February and June through December, you’ll fly directly from Kathmandu to Lukla. In peak trekking months (March–May and October–November), flights operate from Manthali after a scenic drive from Kathmandu.
The trek officially begins in Lukla, winding along the Dudh Koshi River and into the heart of Sagarmatha National Park. Namche Bazaar the economic and cultural center of the Khumbu is your first major stop and a perfect place to acclimatize.
As the trail ascends, the landscape transforms. You’ll pass through alpine forests and ridgelines to reach Tengboche, home to the region’s most revered monastery. From there, you continue through Dingboche and Lobuche, witnessing legendary peaks like Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam.
Eventually, you’ll reach Gorak Shep, the last stop before Everest Base Camp. From here, you’ll trace the edge of the massive Khumbu Glacier to arrive at the legendary base camp itself.
But the adventure doesn’t stop there. A pre-dawn hike up Kala Patthar delivers unmatched sunrise views over Everest. From that high point, the trek gradually retraces its path down through Pheriche, Namche, and finally back to Lukla where a short flight returns you to Kathmandu, and your Himalayan journey concludes.
