Overview

Mt. Makalu is the fifth highest peak in the world and is nearby the Mt. Everest. A magnificent range of natural beauty and culture blesses the Makalu region. Sherpa, Rai, Limbus are the main habitats of the region. Makalu Trek presents an exceptional opportunity to explore high- altitude territory, snow-clad topography and moral Himalayan lifestyle.

Start of Makalu Trek

The trek starts with an hour-long flight to Tumlingtar, east of Nepal and heads up the Aura River valley across the terraced fields and villages to reach Chichira and to Sedua and Num, then crossing Shipton La Pass (4210m) to the upper Barun river valley for a close look at Mount Makalu and Chamlang Himal.

This trek also visits one of the most distant and unfrequented areas of Nepal. The Barun valley is a part of the immense international protected area under the understanding between the governments of Nepal and China, which contains 2330 sq. km of National Park and 830 sq. km of a conservation area in Nepal alone. The Makalu-Barun Valley provides stunning contrasts, where high waterfalls outpour into deep gorges, jagged rocks rise from lush green forests, and colourful flowers blossom beneath white snow peaks.

This unique landscape shelters some of the flawless mountain ecosystems on earth. Some rare species of animals and plant grow in diverse climate and habitats, undisturbed by humankind. Researchers have recorded more than 3000 species of flowering plants, 440 species of birds, and 75 species of mammals, including the endangered clouded leopard, red panda, and musk deer. Makalu Trek is an ideal choice for keen trekkers and nature enthusiasts who seek solace and peace in perfect natural habitat.

Unforgettable Makalu Trek with Mountain Treks Nepal

Our Makalu Base Camp trek with Mountain Treks Nepal was an unforgettable adventure. The scenery was awe-inspiring, with snow-capped peaks like Makalu and Everest dominating the landscape. The trek itself was challenging, but our incredible guide, Dawa, made sure we were safe and supported every step of the way. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the region and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time.

Mountain Treks Nepal took care of everything, from delicious meals prepared by the friendly kitchen staff to comfortable accommodations in teahouses. We never had to worry about a thing, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty of the Himalayas.

This trek was a true highlight of our trip to Nepal, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mountain Treks Nepal to anyone looking for a well-organized and unforgettable trekking experience.
